Roblox is among the most popular online gaming platforms, offering millions of user-created games and experiences. Since it is available on PCs, mobile devices, and consoles, many gamers wonder if Roblox is also on Steam.

Is Roblox on Steam?

Let’s explore if you can play Roblox on Steam, what happens when you try to add it, and alternative ways to launch the game.

Can You Get Roblox on Steam?

Theoretically, yes. But practically, no. You can get Roblox on your Steam library by adding it as a non-Steam game. However, adding Roblox in this way doesn’t actually work as expected. Clicking “Play” does not launch the game properly.

The game either does not open or redirects you to the Roblox website, requiring you to start it manually outside Steam. Some users say that when they click “play,” the system tries to install the Roblox player again.

Some YouTube videos claim they will explain how to download Roblox to Steam. But the truth is that they are fake videos. If you watch the videos until the end, you will notice that after clicking “Play,” the video finishes, and you never see how Roblox was launched from Steam.

Although Roblox won’t launch appropriately from your Steam library, you can still add Roblox Studio to Steam. This can be very useful if you are a Roblox developer.

The natural question that arises now is why Roblox isn’t included in Steam’s massive library.  Steam is the most prominent digital game distribution platform, so something important must be holding back Roblox Developers…

Why Isn’t Roblox on Steam?

Why Isn’t Roblox on Steam?

Roblox is not on Steam, probably because of the revenue. Steam takes a 30% commission on all game sales and in-game purchases, which would significantly cut into Roblox’s profits.

Since Roblox makes most of its money through Robux transactions, giving a portion of this revenue to Steam is not a favorable business decision.

Beyond financial reasons, Roblox prefers to keep its independent ecosystem. The company can benefit from complete control over the platform by distributing the game directly through its website and the Microsoft Store. This way, it can manage updates, security, and moderation without adhering to third-party policies.

However, although Steam does not have Roblox, some workarounds remain to squeeze Steam’s potential while you play Roblox.

3 Workarounds to Use Steam Features with Roblox

Even though you can’t launch Roblox from Steam successfully, there are some workarounds to use Steam features like the overlay and controller support:

  • Steam Overlay for Browser Play.
Instead of adding Roblox, you can add Google Chrome (or another browser) as a non-Steam game and set it to open the Roblox website. This lets you access Steam’s overlay while playing.
  • Controller Support Via Steam.
To use Steam’s controller mapping features, launch Steam in “Big Picture Mode” and manually configure your controller to work with Roblox. This method can help if you’re playing Roblox on a PC but prefer using a gamepad.
  • Playing Roblox on Steam Deck.
You can play Roblox on Steam Deck to enjoy the Steam features, but it requires a workaround. Since Roblox no longer runs on Linux due to Hyperion, players must use a tool called Sober to install the Android version of Roblox. Here is an article explaining how to do it.

Will Roblox Ever Come to Steam?

Will Roblox Ever Come to Steam?

Nobody knows if Roblox will ever come to Steam. Currently, there are no official plans to integrate the game with Steam. Roblox continues to thrive as a standalone platform, and the developers have shown no interest in integrating it with Steam’s ecosystem.

However, gaming trends and business decisions can change over time. If Roblox Corporation decides that Steam’s massive user base is worth the revenue-sharing tradeoff, it might happen in the future. Until then, players will have to access Roblox through its official channels.

Roblox on Steam Will Have to Wait

Roblox is not on Steam, and while you can technically add it as a non-Steam game, it won’t function as expected when you try to launch it. The game remains independent, running through its own client and website.

While some workarounds exist to access certain Steam features with Roblox, there is currently no seamless integration. Unless Roblox officially moves to Steam, players must continue launching the game as they always have: through the platform.
