Have you ever wanted to tell a friend something on Roblox without other players listening? Welcome to the club, cause you are not alone! You may often want to share a tip or a secret to keep the banter going, but it is impossible with all the extra ears…
Keep reading to learn how to whisper in Roblox. We’ll also discuss whether whispering is similar to sharing private messages.
Whispering in Roblox
To whisper in Roblox, enter the game chat box and type “/w username“, in which “username” is the name of the person you want to whisper to. The system will automatically detect the player’s name, and “[To Username]” will appear in purple in the text field. Then, write the message you want to whisper and press “Enter”.

You can also turn on whisper mode by tapping a player’s username. Open and scroll in the chat box or press the “backslash” key ( \ ). Next, click on a username. Wait for the “[To Username]” to appear in the text field and type a message to send as a whisper.
Note: Whisper mode may not work in some Roblox games. For those games, the developers disabled it to include a separate way of chatting in the game.
Why Can’t You Whisper to Someone on Roblox?
Whispering to someone won’t work if the recipient has blocked you, only accepts whispers from friends, or has just gone offline. Roblox will inform you in these situations with a message.
However, there is a known case in which you can’t whisper to someone, and Roblox doesn’t send you any warning. This happens when an enemy player goes offline immediately after the game and then reconnects.
Are Whispers and Private Messages The Same?
No, whispers and private messages are not the same. Roblox has another feature that allows you to send private messages outside a game. You send “Whisper messages” only when you chat privately with someone while playing a particular game on Roblox.
However, if you’re curious about how to private chat in Roblox, the platform has an in-built feature you can use. All you need is the username or ID of your intended recipient.
